BK Virus Infection and Its Management in Renal Transplantation: An Update
نویسندگان
چکیده
BK virus (BKV) is a common opportunistic pathogen in kidney transplant recipients and one of the most challenging causes allograft dysfunction loss. Although over-immunosuppression remains primary risk factor for BKV infection after transplantation, male gender, older recipient age, prior rejection episodes, degree human leukocyte antigen mismatching, prolonged cold ischemia time, serostatus ureteral stent placement have all been implicated as factors. Routine screening post-renal important to prevent loss patients with viruria or viremia. Reduction immunosuppression mainstay nephropathy treatment studied intervention. In this review, we are going discuss epidemiology infection, strategies, options new studies evidence future.

BK Virus Screening and Management Following Kidney Transplantation: An Update
BK virus is a ubiquitous human virus with a peak incidence of primary infection in children 2-5 years of age and a seroprevalence rate of greater than 60-90% among the adult population worldwide. Following primary infection, BK virus preferentially establishes latency within the genitourinary tract and frequently reactivates in the setting of immunosuppression. In renal transplant recipients, B...
متن کاملBK polyoma virus infection and renal disease in non-renal solid organ transplantation
BK virus (BKV) is a non-enveloped DNA virus of the polyomaviridae family that causes an interstitial nephritis in immunosuppressed patients. BKV nephropathy is now a leading cause of chronic kidney disease and early allograft failure following kidney transplantation. It is also known to cause renal disease with a progressive decline in kidney function in non-renal solid organ transplant (NRSOT)...
متن کامل[BK viral infection after renal transplantation].
Viral infections have been a subject of great interest in patients after organ transplantations. Post-transplant immunosuppressive therapy is often associated with transfenction or reactivation of viruses. The human polyomavirus type I, also called BKvirus (BKV), causes polyomavirus-associated nephropathy (PVAN) in 1-10% of renal transplant recipients. Thanks to increased PVAN awareness and imp...
متن کاملBK virus nephritis after renal transplantation.
BK viremia and nephritis are increasing problems in renal transplant recipients. The exact cause of the increasing prevalence of this condition remains poorly understood. Increasing prevalence has been correlated with newer immunosuppressive agents and the decline in acute rejection rates in recent years. The clinical manifestation varies from the asymptomatic state of viremia and nephritis to ...
متن کاملBK Virus Infection in Renal Allograft Recipients
BK virus infection is a challenging complication in renal allograft recipients and has been associated with hematuria, ureteral stenosis, nephropathy and malignancy. BK virus infection occurs early during childhood and the virus lays dormant in uroepithelial cells. Reactivation of the virus in renal transplant recipients is particularly worrisome because of its propensity to cause local damage ...
